At FMZ, we all do our work every day and night because we want to solve the biggest problem in farming - access to market. Everyone is guessing. Farmers don’t know what crops to grow, what livestock to rear, how to monetise farm produce, or even what to price them at. Buyers don’t know where their target farmers are, how to reach them, or even how much they need to spend in order to do so. Agri-industries aren’t sure which crops and livistock are being farmed, and where farmers are really spending their time (and money) on. This has led to businesses importing produce that local farmers are failing to market, For example chicken meat has been imported from as far as Brazil when local farmers in Masvingo are failing to have a market for their chickens.
Throughout the history of business, people need to access to markets in order to succeed. Our mission at FMZ is to make the marketing of farm produce not only sustainable but also more transparent. Today we provide the most efficient platform for farmers and buyers to interract, bargain and do business. We want to make this platform available to as many farmers as possible (not just the top 5%). This is why we designed this platform to be available on ordinary smartphones knowing how difficult it is for the ordinary farmer to have access to a computer.
In addition to sustainable social change in agri-marketing, we believe passionately in good healthy food, great friends, long bargaining talks, broadened horizons plus, of course, a spirit of adventure.
FMZ is determined to break the cycle of extreme poverty afflicting farmers through sustainable marketing. Most farmers and their families are currently trapped in extreme poverty and debt slavery not because they are lazy but mainly because the don't know where to market their produce. Now they are empowered to earn a stable, healthy income through dignified selling of their farm produce without having lo leave their farms unattended(we like to call this a "farmer prosperity wage").
We believe that this is the basis for a brighter future, built on a hand up, not a handout.
